We profit from the summertime weather (!) to visit Chau Chow City with Uncle Jim, an eatery in Chinatown, for Dim Sum, then we play in the common and meet new friends Morgan and Mary.

Well now it really is Spring.  Follow along via pictures on Google’s Picasa service as we get rid of the old cribs, put matchbox cars on an easel, point out our first tulip of the year, buy beer for Uncles Jim and Pete’s party, eat tater tots at Burger King, goof around downtown Belmont, see a burning van on the road, visit a yard sale, and throw balsa wood airplanes in the park!

Well, it’s Spring, sort of, and so that means we walk around the neighborhood and take pictures of things, which we present to you as a Flickr photo slide show.  Eggs, old restaurant statues, trash cans, cake, people, jumping, running, etc.   The nice gentleman who lets us look at the ceramic sun?  His name is Ed.

Meadowmen made a family trip to the Northeast Regional Computing Program Annual Conference March 9 – 11 in Providence, MA.  David presented “The Future of the Library: Library Construction Kit” with David Lewis of I.U.P.U.I. on Monday afternoon, and lead a team of conference Tweeps (people who reported on the conference virtually via the application Twitter).  Sarah and the next generation played in and around hotels and visited the conference proceedings once or twice.

Keynotes were John Maeda of Rhode Island School of Design and Morris Beverage of Lakeland Community College.

A smattering of pictures from hotel, conference, adjacent fancy mall:

Hi all,

We made an excursion this, the warmest morning of the calendar year, to the famous “Fake Rock” of Mt. Auburn, Cambridge, MA.  In particular to see what was under it.  We apologize that we have no photos or videos, as all our cameras had depleted batteries.  But we did look under, and we saw some pipes and a spigot.  Leah and Isaac try to describe the experience in the very short video below.  But really how can you put this kind of event into words?

For the record, post-rock itinerary also include:

  1. Ate some fruit at the Mt. Auburn Hospital Cafeteria, adjacent to Fake Rock.
  2. Rode the 73 Bus past the Fake Rock to Belmont Kidspace, where we discovered we would be helping open up.
  3. Played with Isaac’s new friend Ethan.
  4. Walked to Cushing Square, Belmont, ate a doughnut in a bakery and lunch at Restaurant on Common.
  5. Rode the 73 Bus back to the Fake Rock, looked under it again, and went home.
  6. Planted acorns in a flower pot of dirt.

Today we chose with no research in advance to invite Sarah Frances, Lesley Q, Tien, and Kien to join us at the little known Trustees of Reservations property “Bear’s Den.”

A 3-minute Video: http://www.archive.org/details/BearsDen

The Den was snow-clad and pristine.  And we in sneakers.  Trail markings were obscured by snow, and it rained. But we persevered.

The Den per local lore is where Indian King Philip planned a 1675 attack on English settlements. It’s also where mills and sluices fed our nation’s industry and somebody shot a bear (hence the name).

The Trustees of Reservations is a nice sort of Massachusetts-focused Nature Consevancy with a variety of properties open to the public.

Recently in our Salt Lake City trip, we’ve visited:

Crown Burger, a local hamburger restaurant with a specialty hamburger that combines Big-Mac-Like sauce with quite tasty pastrami.

The Frank Moss Federal courthouse.

Tuscany Italian restaurant, where we delighted in their signature pork chop.

Park City, Utah, home of Sundance Film Festival (which starts next week), where we ate a great pizza at Red Banjo.  And a salad with pepperoni on it (!).

The This-is-the-Place monument.

The Mormon Tabernacle, sans choir.

Temple Square, Salt Lake City.

We’ve also eaten two delicious roasts and one chicken and dumplings made in a crock pot.

Some of us of legal age drank a Rusty Nail or Moet champagne to celebrate Eve’s 80th birthday (the reason for the season).
